Living Root Bridge |
Location: Laitkynsew, Meghalaya |
Innovative engineering of the Khasi tribesmen at its best. The roots of a species of the Indian Rubber tree that naturally grow alongside rivers are trained over scores of years to form a bridge. The bridge grows stronger as time passes. The area is so remote, and gets so much rainfall that other means of construction would be extremely difficult. |

Apatani Tribals |
Location: Hija Village, Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh |
Apatani women are considered to be the most beautiful in all of Arunachal Pradesh. To prevent other tribesmen from courting their womenfolk, a practice of face tattoing and wearing of circular nose plugs was begun. The practise has largely stopped since the 1970's though. |

Bramhaputra River |
Location: Brahmaputra River, Assam |
The Brahmaputra has many different faces. From a raging flow to a serene, almost motionless look, it winds its way down through Arunachal, where it is called Siang, into Assam. I managed to catch this moment of perfect symmetry when we were riding the ferry towards Dibrugarh from Pasighat. |

Sunset at Nagin Lake |
Location: Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir |
Srinagar's distinctive feature is the great body of water, the Dal Lake, which forms its focal point. Leading from the Dal is the smaller Nagin Lake. Here too, the waters are edged by trees of willow and poplar whose reflection is mirrored in the lake. |

Rangdum, Suru Valley |
Location: Rangdum,
Ladakh |
Rangdum is an elliptical expanded
plateau surrounded by colourful hills on the one
side and glacier encrusted rocky mountains on the
other. It is the most isolated part of the Suru
Valley. Situated 130 kms South-east of Kargil, it
falls midway between Kargil and Padum. Due to its
remoteness, the area's wild beauty is almost haunting,
while its isolation is near perfect even as the
unpaved Zanskar road traverses its length. |
